First National displays allyship during this year’s Pride celebrations
- Supporting My Community
This summer, in the lead up to Pride across Canada, First National team members leaned in to support the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and each other through a series of special Allyship: Celebrating PRIDE Together events and programs.
Beyond having a great time, our team learned about – and contributed to – important local causes including:
- Friends of Ruby, which helps 2SLGBTQIA+ youth in Toronto who are coping with family rejection, trauma, violence and homelessness
- Skipping Stone, which connects trans and gender-diverse youth, adults and families in Calgary with comprehensive and low-barrier access to support
- The McLaren Housing Society, which provides rent subsidies and health and wellness services to British Columbians with limited/no income
We also proudly participated in our own Allyship Message Exchange Program and skill-testing Allyship polls and created a video featuring team members talking about the importance of allies in their lives.
We wish to thank Spaces, our Employee Resource Group, for inspiring our activities, and our allies in the business community – Canada Guaranty, Levant, Craig’s Cookies, Miss Prêt à Manger and 2GuysWithKnives – for being part of our celebrations.
Practiced at home, on the job and in our communities, true allyship – the act of standing up for others – makes the world a better place. Please join us as allies for full inclusion.
